Opus I Music Society

"Making music an integral part of life"

HISTORY

Founded - May 1991

Federated - September 1991

First Scholarship Awards - Spring 1999

Opus I Music Society began in May 1991 at a meeting of five women who shared a common interest in forming a local, federated music club in the southern Butler County area. The club would become a member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Music Clubs (PFMC) and the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC). Opus I began to grow as local piano teachers and music appreciators joined the newly formed club. After months of planning, Opus I Music Society was presented an official charter by the PFMC on September 19, 1991.

Since it's founding, Opus I Music Society continues to grow in number and to share fine musical programs for members and guests. Opus I participates in specific plans of the PFMC and NFMC for the advancement of music in the community around us.

Opus I fosters young musical talent and encourages the youth in three local school districts of our community by providing opportunities for participation in Federation activities. Opus I programs often include student performers from the local area.

Opus I Music Society supports the annual NFMC Parade of America Music and the NFMC National Music Week. Events are listed in the annual Opus I Yearbook.
